Bancroft Autumn Tasting 2012- The Growers

On Tuesday we hosted our Autumn Trade Tasting at our office in Bermondsey. This was a chance to sample some of the new arrivals to the Bancroft portfolio and also a chance to meet some of our favourite wine producers in person.

We were lucky enough to be joined by the passionate Croatian winemaker Ivica Matošević, a new addition to our portfolio this year, and to which we have just added three new wines.

We also welcomed back Romina from the wonderful Italian Tacchino family who was showcasing her new Moscato d’asti.

Joining her in the Italian camp was Giovanni Bresciani from our new Franciacorta agency Muratori. The quality of their white and rosé are incredible, both made in the traditional method and from Champagne grape varieties – pure class!

Also making the trip over to join us was Alessandro De Stefani (actually good friends with Giovanni next to him!), part of the eponymous wine estate De Stefani.

Next to him was Carlo Sani from the Gamberro Rosso Three Glass Award winning property of Conti Zecca. He showed new vintages of his entry-level wines as well as older vintages of the Nero and Terra wines that were showing really well.

Next up was Spain and representing our three new wine agencies was Shane Fazackerley: Bodegas Altanza, Rioja, Bodegas Gargalo (Monterrei) and Bodegas Carisma (Pirineos).

It was the first time that Sylvie Deffarge-Danger from Château Moulin-Caresse has come to show her wines in the UK. Next to her was Arnaud, one half of the brotherly team at Château Viranel, was on great form as his Trilogie Rouge has just been chosen as one of the 5 stars of the Languedoc.

The day was an outstanding success, which led the team and the producers onwards to Pizarro’s restaurant.....
